Frequently Asked Questions

What is Toner Cartridge?

A toner cartridge, also called laser toner, is the consumable component of a Laser Printer. Toner cartridges contain Toner powder, a fine, dry mixture of plastic particles, carbon, and black or other coloring agents that make the actual image on the paper. The toner is transferred to paper via an electrostatically charged drum unit, and fused onto the paper by heated rollers during the printing process. It will not stain like ink cartridges, but it can get messy if handled improperly.

What is a Compatible Cartridge?

A Compatible cartridges refer to printer cartridges that are not manufactured by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the printer. Instead, these cartridges are produced by third-party manufacturers with the specific intention of being compatible with certain printers. The cartridges are designed to function and fit in a manner that is akin to the OEM cartridges, while offering consumers an affordable alternative. Compatible cartridges often provide comparable print quality and page yield to the OEM cartridges, at a lower price. Consequently, they are a preferred choice for many printer users, as they can help reduce printing costs without compromising on quality.

How is a Compatible cartridge different from refilled/remanufactured cartridge?

Refilling/Ramanufacture of cartridge refers to reusing an old/used cartridge when it exhausts ink/toner inside it then filling fresh ink/toner into that old/used cartridge either manually or by machines after thorough cleaning and removing the residual ink/toner, if any. They are also known as “Remanufactured or Refill Cartridges”.

A cartridge is generally due for replacing or refilling when printouts become lighter, unclear or missing.

On the other hand, compatible cartridges are made up of 100% brand new components that are assembled in state-of-the-art units. Refilled products are typically unreliable, have high failure rates, and produce poor print quality. Compatible cartridges, however, perform at the same high standards as OEM products.

What is difference between OEM, Compatible and Remanufactured Cartridges?

OEM CARTRIDGES
Original cartridges, also known as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges are produced by the original printer manufacturer and these cartridges are specifically designed to work seamlessly with the corresponding printer model that they are made for. For example, original Canon toner cartridges are manufactured by Canon and original Epson ink cartridges are manufactured by Epson.

COMPATIBLE CARTRIDGES
Compatible Toner cartridges are produced and marketed by third-party manufacturers (other than OEM, Say Aadya), to sui & work on the printers. But they are not made by the printer manufacturer.
Like- HP, Samsung, Canon, Epson, etc.

REMANUFACTURED CARTRIDGES
Remanufactured- Some manufacturers collect used (empty) cartridges, clean and refill and market them as remanufactured cartridges in their unkown brand. Remanufacturing of toner cartridges may also require replacement of some worn out components, viz. blades, OPC drums, PCRs etc.

What is the legality component in respect to Compatible cartridges?

GeM, an Indian government initiative, has recently launched an e-commerce platform featuring a new product category, “Compatible Cartridge,” after conducting a comprehensive examination of relevant parameters. Some may question whether this platform is susceptible to illegal products. However, it is highly unlikely that a government-run e-commerce platform would endorse the sale of illicit products
